Arm length and position in javelin throwing might be one of the most discussed and misunderstood aspects of the track and field sport. I’ve seen people discuss everything from pushing the arm as far back as possible to having it way above the head to keep the javelin perfectly level. There’s a lot of thought on this topic but which idea should YOU go with?
- Should your arm sit halfway back?
- Can you have the arm sit below the shoulder during approach?
- You can’t have the arm half bent so what should you do instead.
- If you’re a top thrower, can you bend the arm a bit or should it be completely back and wrapped and rolled too?
There are endless questions about arm position for javelin throwing and we dive into what’s best for throwers of all levels in this video.
